We are proud to announce the final release of our Proxmox VE 4.0 - based on the great Debian Jessie.

Watch our short introduction video - What's new in Proxmox VE 4.0?

Linux Containers (LXC)
The new container solution for Proxmox VE is fully integrated into our frameworks, e.g. this includes our advanced storage plugins like ZFS, Ceph or even DRBD9, full IPv6 support and much more. LXC works with all modern and latest Linux kernels.

Bash completion
All our CLI tools support now advanced bash completion, Linux experts will just love it!

New Proxmox VE HA Manager for High Availability Clusters
The new HA manager dramatically simplifies HA setups – it works with only a few clicks on the GUI, test it! And it elminates the need of external fencing devices, watchdog fencing is automatically configured.

Can DRBD8 still be used on 4.0. I don't have a worm and fuzzy feeling about it. Plus it is not even well documented.

Just tried out the install directions { removed cause im not allowed to post links Proxmox 3.4 to 4.0 } found here and now apt-get is grumpy with me after I run 'apt-get install proxmox-ve'

failed to change directory to /etc/pve/lxc: No such file or directory at /usr/sbin/pve-update-lxc-config line 595.
dpkg: error processing package pve-container (--configure):
subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 2
dpkg: dependency problems prevent configuration of pve-manager:
pve-manager depends on pve-container; however:
Package pve-container is not configured yet.

dpkg: error processing package pve-manager (--configure):
dependency problems - leaving unconfigured

dpkg: error processing package proxmox-ve (--configure):
dependency problems - leaving unconfigured
Processing triggers for libc-bin (2.19-18+deb8u1) ...
Errors were encountered while processing:
pve-container
pve-manager
proxmox-ve
E: Sub-process /usr/bin/dpkg returned an error code (1)

Any suggestions ?
I have additional information such as ls -al of etc pve lxc .. which is a broke symbolic link .. but alas im not allowed to paste dir / file paths into my forum posts .. sigh

....

what did you exactly? upgrade a 3.x host or a 4.0 beta?

I'm trying to upgrade from 3.4 to 4.0 using the official 3.4 to 4.0 documentation and its seems the symlink is broken which might(?) be causing the errors from apt-get

are you sure that you booted already into the 4.2 kernel before you start with 'apt-get install proxmox-ve'?

check with:

> uname -a

should be:

Linux pve 4.2.2-1-pve #1 SMP Mon Oct 5 18:23:31 CEST 2015 x86_64 GNU/Linux

Sorry if my post sounds redundant. Also, I love the product and don't mean to offend people who are making it. I also purchased a basic support license so I am interested in well being of the product as a customer. However I have few questions

1. Can DRBD 8.4 used on PVE 4.0 until DRBD9 is mature enough or at least until linbit makes it an official release with updated documentation? It is now in pre-release status from what I am reading.
2. I have two nodes with qdisk for quorum on 3.4, so upgrade to 4.0 is not possible for me?
3. If I add more nodes and use DRBD 8.4, can I use DRBD for specific fail-over groups. Example, 4 node cluster node1 and node2 share storage-vol1 via drbd and node3 / node4 share storage-vol2 via DRBD. I can assign some vms in a fail-over group for node1 / node2 and some other vms only use fail-over group for node3 / node4. I know it is not pretty but can it technically work?

The reasons I cannot just go to DRBD 9:
I don't believe it is production ready.
My hardware doesn't have equivalent disk space to share on all nodes.
I don't need 4 copies of VM. When I am looking into your wiki that is what suggested. If I could use DRBD9 for 2 nodes out of 4 I would probably consider the change

So you saying I cannot install 8.4 and use with LVM as I used in 3.4? Is anything in the new system preventing me from doing it?

Using Ceph as a client is stable since a long time, Ceph Server is still technology preview.

I was (stress)testing ceph server and for me it's stable. I started month ago with Proxmox 4 beta1 then beta2 and still working although I try almost everything to lose data from ceph cluster.

Dang I missed that critical step .. Perhaps it should be bolded in the wiki article ? I should also opening my eyes

< much time has gone by >
I lost 2 disks in a raid10 but my os disk is fine however the machine refuses to boot into 4.2.2-1
kernel panic-not syncing: VFS: unable to mount root fs on unknown block(0,0)

< more time has gone by >
I've given up I will just rebuild my vm.conf's .. fortunately my vdisks are on a separate disk

Hey,
nice work ;)
Do you think, LXC is better suited for hosting environments? LXC lacks on isolation, specifically IO isolation.
OpenVZ is still using an old kernel but have these features.

Any suggestions about that?

Best regards
Henry
