Proxmox 4.2 cache problem with RAM

Hi,

I have a cache problem in proxmox. See attached screenshot! the cache size continues to increase. the problem is the cache will no cleanup automatically.

and the problem is, if the ram space is full the proxmox system swap on the hdd.

any idea why proxmox have so much cache size and will not cleanup it automatically? any setting that is important for this setting?

Hi,

It locks like you have a win machine running. They allocate much cache but the kernel will give this space free.
If you will secure set the swappiness to 0 or max. 20

/etc/sysctl.conf
vm.vfs_cache_pressure=0
vm.swappiness=0

what do you have for a Filesystem on the host?

Thanks for the fast reply. yes i have a vm with windows, but this vm is stopped! and the cache size is continues to increase. and no cleanup automatically.

This are my partition information:

/dev/sda2 linux_raid_member (in use)
/dev/sda3 swap swap-sda3 <swap>
/dev/sda4 linux_raid_member (in use)
/dev/sdb2 linux_raid_member (in use)
/dev/sdb3 swap swap-sdb3 <swap>
/dev/sdb4 linux_raid_member (in use)
/dev/md2 ext3 / /
/dev/md4 LVM2_member (in use)
/dev/mapper/pve-data ext3 /var/lib/vz /var/lib/vz

Hi,

Proxmox Debian does not clear the RAM cache... the ram cache is now full and nothing happens but why?

Any idea what i can do to optimize the ram cache?

That's how you host is suppsed to behave.
