Hi,

I have a question about exporting backups from PBS to import them into PVE. I need to do this because the backups are too large to transfer over the network (internet), so I want to copy them to an external drive, transport the drive to the other server, and then import the backups. Is this possible?

The servers are not in the same location, so I cannot use the regular data transfer methods.
Or is there any other possibility to do this?

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,

No, its not. The the public way an add the Proxmox bs storrage to your new Proxmox VE.
So you can access the Backup.

Maybe one solution :

Create a VM pbs ( system drive + datastore ) on the external storage.

Do a pbs sync between the pbs and and the pbs on the external storage .

Create a vzdump of the vm pbs system drive on the external storage.

on the second location, import import the pbs VM , et and do the restauration.

Or don't use pbs for the backup on the external drive, but do a backup durectly via vzdump in proxmox, if you don't have to use the old backup on pbs.

Another option would be to shutdown the vm you want to copy - use SCP some other tool to copy the server 'image' along with it's 'file data' info (cpu, memory, etc) to your external drive. Then you could transport it to the remote site and import (unsure if you can do from a usb/drive) the image into the new name. Basically you are creating a 'new named' server initially w/o the hard-drive, and then import the image. if you need you can scp the image back to a temp location on the remote side - then import the file from there.
