Hi, I’m thinking of replacing the single SATA SSD (500GB Samsung 860 Evo) disk in one of my PVE6 cluster nodes with a 500GB Samsung 970 Evo Plus NVMe disk...

Should this simply be a case of using clonezilla to clone the SATA SSD to the NVMe and then booting PVE6 from the NVMe or would there be additional steps needed? Or is it just easier to completely reinstall and recover the PVE6 node with the new NVMe?

Thanks!

If your installation was made as EFI installation the Clonezilla way will work.
If you have ZFS as rpool you have to reinstall or go a painfull way and reconfigure all.

Thanks for the response - I installed the PVE6 nodes as single-disk ZFS under EFI so I assume by your response above that I'd need to completely reinstall the node?

I recall that there was an easy (easier) way to reconfigure the node back to the cluster once reinstalled - Is there a guide which indicates which of the current /etc/pve/ files I'd need to back up and restore to the node after reinstalling so that it is then configured back to the cluster (rather than having to reconfigure the node manually to join back to the cluster?

thanks!

We are considering something similar to this, specifically to support high I/O nodes such as database servers. What was your overall experience with performance after you made the jump to NVMe?
