I have a couple of nodes, and they're for homelabbing. I'm learning system administration with these. They both use ZFS. One is a PowerEdge 730XD with a PERC H730 RAID controller set to JBOD and a few pools in different configurations (2x Stripes and a mirror), and the other is a ThinkCentre running a single NVMe drive. I like the idea of each backing up parts of each other.
As an aside, there was a really good discussion in the Proxmox forums about the performance of the PERC H730 in all sorts of conditions including using ZFS. The JBOD appears to do a fake passthrough, but if I'm reading it right, preliminary results looked good somehow.
I want a Proxmox Backup Server container to have full access to the host's ZFS so that it may have all of those features available to itself. I know that I could simply install the PBS package on host, but I'd like the benefit of the GUI and its easy to use resource restrictions that Proxmox affords so as to minimize disruption. If not, I thought I'd have to learn to use cgroups. Am I right to presume they are the same or equivalent?
I'm looking for a guide or sanity check here. I've spent much time looking for similar questions, and I'm struggling to find enough similarities with what I'm trying to acheive.
To be clear: the big idea is to have the convenience of setting resource quotas on the PBS CT so as to limit distruption of other VM/CT while backups/restorations are running while also having the full benefits of the ZFS features of PBS. Let me know if I'm going about that goal all wrong or how to otherwise achieve
