ZFS settings required to use Hardware RAID instead of ZFS erasure coding

Hi,

We would like to use HA pair of Proxmox servers and data replication in Proxmox therefore shared storage is required (ZFS, BTRFS?). We also want to use Hardware RAID instead of ZFS erasure coding or RAID in BTRFS.

Does proxmox define what commands/setitngs are required in order to setup zfs/BTRFS? i.e Does it affect the supportability from Proxmox?

If anyone knows how to configure this then that would be greatly appreciated.

Replication functionality in PVE only works with ZFS today. Neither ZFS, nor BTRFS is a shared storage. They are both used locally on the node. I am not a ZFS expert, but if you need replication, you can skip BTRFS.

Good luck

On 2 proxmox servers you should use zfs replication, imho. It will regulary create zfs snapshots on the active side and sync the differences to the other side. Note, this is not truly shared storage like a san, nfs share or ceph, if your active node dies you will loose the data since the last zfs replication sync, eg. 5 minutes. Also DO monitor that the replication is working.

You do NOT want to use HW Raid with zfs.

You can set up zfs pools directly in the proxmox installer
