Win10 VM: No sleep since 6.1

Hello,
i am running a windows 10 vm with PM6.1. I ported it recently from 5.4 and it always used to be in sleep state if unused.
Since 6.1 the vm still gets into sleep but when i want to wake it completely reboots.

I tried with a plain fresh install but i have the same situation. What i also could figure out: Sleep is only avaiable with SPICE. If i use a different gpu emulation it is not avaiable at all inside W10. I can still trigger it from the outside (Webinterface) but when i spin it up again, same behaviour.

I updated virtio drivers in both: The Original VM and the fresh as well, but no changes.

Any ideas how to approach this?

Thank you

what do you mean with 'sleep' ? suspend to ram/disk? from inside the vm? how do you wake up the vm ?
any logs from inside the vm?

I teste now even more but still the same result. I dotn see errors from the outside but windows is telling me:

Die Wiederaufnahme aus dem Ruhezustand war nicht erfolgreich. Fehlerstatus: 0xC0000001.

FailureStatus3221225473

FailureMsgA fatal error occurred processing the restoration data.

Berichts-ID: 377a2141-cb4c-4409-ae95-52f734ac6cc5.

Hi,

i am still struggling with this issue, anyone experiencing the same?

PS: I´d like to include the German community - but i don't want to open a duplicate. Can this be moved?

Hello,

I have the same problem here, it worked some time ago.
the Windows 10 machine goes to standby, and the state in the Proxmox WebIf also show the paused sign.
But when i try to "Resume" the machine it stops and I have to "Start" it again.

I am on
pve-manager/6.1-8/806edfe1 (running kernel: 5.3.18-2-pve)
intalled
Windows 10 with all updates

Kind regards
Sven

I don`t have. I am happy o help/ contribute with logs or try-and-error but i don't have any further ideas on my own.

=> Change the "Power & Sleep" settings inside Win 10.

=> Change the "Power & Sleep" settings inside Win 10.

thx for your answer, but „change it to?“ and why? It worked before, was it a windows update which broke the suspend mode or was it a proxmox update?

thx

I actually migrated from PM5 to PM6 and it stopped working from this moment. I played a lot with the different Power & Sleep settings but could not find a solution. Even created a fresh W10 install, but didn`t work.

Works here. Just do not put your Windows into sleep mode.

Hmm, sorry that’s a Good idea, but it is just a workaround, not a fix. If I don’t put it in suspend my desktop is still running and also using my pci GPU.

I also tried all other suspend and standby modes a while ago.

Since more people do have this problem it should be investigated.

thx in advance

Yes we can keep the VM running but this is not the question of the thread. I solution for the sleep would be very appreciated. As mentioned before i am happy to help if possible.

I know it's been a while, but is there any update. Recently tried it again but still fails.
In the meanwhile i also tried with WIN11 but same..

I too am experiencing this, and have been for a while. Using Proxmox 7.3.6 and Windows 11 Pro with latest updates. It will go to sleep and I see the 'pause' icon on the VM, when I click resume instead of returning to windows it just reboots, every time.

Event log shows just a Critical error that the system rebooted without cleanly shutting down, and that this reboot was unexpected.

I know I can simply adjust power management settings as a workaround, but would be nice to get to the bottom of this issue so it can work properly as intended.

anything in the host journal?

you can print the journal with 'journalctl' (for more info check 'man journalctl' or 'journalctl --help') or the /var/log/syslog or the syslog tab in the gui (nodes -> nodename -> system -> syslog)

I can't seem to see anything useful. Eventually after resuming it starts but reboots the VM .
