Aloha, I have setup Proxmox 8.1.3 with an Ubuntu 22.04 mail server VM (zimbra) that has a static WAN Ip at site 1
I want to setup a replicated Mail server at Site 2 with a different static wan ip, So that if Mail server 1 goes down, Mail server 2 picks up and starts.

Problem - The Static Ip is hard coded inside the Ubuntu VM, so if site 1 fails, and site 2 starts, it won't have the correct static on it.
Questions -
1 . Is it possible to set the Ubuntu VM to pull it's ip from a linux bridge or prox nic?
2. Would setting up a HA cluster or ProxBackup server serve the purpose of failover?
3. If not then how would one go about having a failover vm with a different Static ip?

More info -
I have both sites linked with a site2site vpn so they can talk to each other on the local network,

Thanks in advanced, just getting started with Proxmox and i'm loving it so far

You could have two MX records in your DNS with site 1 having higher priority. They don't need to have the same IP.
Thnx for your reply @BobhWasatch , I've already setup the 2nd public with a lower mx priority, and set a ptr/rdns record for the 2nd ip. However replication to the 2nd box will overwrite the static ip under /etc/networks . So if the 1st server goes down the 2nd one won't have the proper static set under the vm.
