VM migration during ceph remapping

Hello!

I wanted to ask a quick question because i'm not totally sure at the moment and don't want to risk any of my VMs. I was forced to replace a node in my cluster urgently which worked perfectly fine. My ceph is currently in the state of remapping+refilling because of the newly added OSDs.

According to the dashboard ceph states that it will take around 20 hours which is a long time... My question is now: would it be safe to migrate a VM to the newly added node even while the rremapping is still in progress or do i risk losing data? Will proxmox itself prevent a migration? Will there be probably any performance issues while migrating?

Thank you in advance!

Hey,

your data is fine, migration doesn't move the data, it stays in the same place(s), after the migration it is just used from somewhere else. If ceph has its own network you shouldn't really notice anything more than what you currently see performance wise.

thank you for your response! i'm glad to hear that and will now move my VMs with a bit less worries. :)
