Unable to access Proxmox after installing Pfsense

Hi All,

I am trying to get a pfsense router running as a VM to have more control over the stuff I run on my network. I got Pfsense up and running; however, I am encountering an issue.

Have pfsense connected to its own Network interfaces in the form of a dual intel 2.5Gb NIC plugged into my server. I left the motherboard NIC alone for the sake of using it only for Proxmox and its virtual machines (everything but pfsense)

My setup looks like this: Internet > Verizon Router > MOCA > Intel NIC on server > network switch > everything else (Proxmox and my PC).

I am able to access the internet fine from my PC, however, I cannot seem to connect to my proxmox system at all. I checked the DHCP leases in the PF sense portal to see what IP addresses the server pulls from pfSense however, I do not see it pulling any IP addresses at all.

Does anyone have any advice for connecting the server to pfSense so that I can connect to it?

thx,
Enspist

Hey,

Proxmox usually doesn't use DHCP to configure it's own IP, this is normally done manually when installing the server.
To remedy the situation, you can give yourself an IP out of your old ip range and try to connect to proxmox with the IP you used till you setup PFsense.
From there you can go to your Node > System > Network and set a new IP in your current subnet, just be aware that it should
be outside of the range that your DHCP server distributes or it could come to ip collisions
