Should I use IT Mode or RAID Mode in my controller

Hi,

I'm a new user to Proxmox, I haven't installed yet, just currently building the server it will sit on.

Given Proxmox supports ZFS, should I use a RAID enabled controller, and let that deal with RAIDing the drives?
Or should I use a RAID card flashed to IT mode, and allow ZFS to handle the RAIDing of the drives?

If you want to use ZFS don't use HW raid and choose a HBA with IT-Mode. See here why: https://openzfs.github.io/openzfs-docs/Performance and Tuning/Hardware.html#hardware-raid-controllers

If you just got consumer SSDs or not that much RAM and you don't care that much about data integrity and all the ZFS features (deduplication, block level compression, replication, bit rot protection, SSD caching, ... ), HW raid with LVM-Thin ontop might be a better choice.
