Hello everyone,

I'm a beginner who recently installed Proxmox VE and I'm still learning my way around it.
In standard Linux environments, it's common practice to disable root login and implement various security enhancements as initial steps. However, I'm unsure about the best approach for Proxmox VE, since the WebUI seems to default to using the root account for login.

My questions are:
1. Is it considered acceptable to continue using the root account for the Proxmox WebUI in production environments?
2. Is it possible to create users with full administrative privileges as an alternative to using root?
3. What are the recommended security practices for Proxmox user management?

I would appreciate any guidance on this topic as I'm completely new to Proxmox administration.
Thank you!

Almost but for some things you still need to login as root. Several threads and requests about this on the forum.
Does this mean that managing virtual environments in Proxmox VE commonly requires root login?

Everyone thanks for reply!
It was very helpful. I will use root for all.
Maybe mark thread as solved then? Thank you...
