Shell connections coming from other subnets dropping

I'm trying out proxmox for the first time, and I'm running into a strange issue.

My Supermicro nodes have four ethernet ports, and I've configured all of them to have different IP addresses on each of my four subnets.

When I ssh to one of my nodes, or launch a shell from the Proxmox web ui, and my laptop isn't connected to the same subnet as the Proxmox node's primary ethernet's subnet, the connection will cease after 20-30 seconds. Even if I'm pinging a different IP address from inside the Proxmox ssh session.

If I shut down the ethernet interface that is on the subnet that my laptop is currently on, the problem does not occur.

The logs show nothing. I've configured sshd so it only listens for the primary ethernet interface's IP address. I was running xcp-ng on these same nodes and I didn't have this issue.

The logs do not show that the ssh connection was dropped or that there was a networking issue. The session just freezes.

I've checked my PFSense, which is running on its own hardware, and I don't see problems in in its logs either.

If it was a linux configuration item where root logins are time limited, then I would see the seesion termination messages in the Proxmox node's syslog.

The web ui connection is stable regardless of which subnet my laptop is using.

Any idea what could be causing this?
