we're very excited to announce the release of Proxmox Virtual Environment 7.4. It's based on Debian 11.6 "Bullseye" but using a newer Linux kernel 5.15 or 6.2, QEMU 7.2, LXC 5.0.2, and ZFS 2.1.9.

Proxmox Virtual Environment 7.4 comes with a new dark theme "Proxmox Dark".

Here is a selection of the highlights
  • Debian 11.6 "Bullseye", but using a newer Linux kernel 5.15 or 6.2
  • QEMU 7.2, LXC 5.0.2, and ZFS 2.1.9
  • Ceph Quincy 17.2.5 and Ceph Pacific 16.2.11
  • A fully-integrated "Proxmox Dark" theme variant
  • Display of detailed Ceph OSD information in GUI and API
  • Download task logs as text files
  • Sorting of resource tree by name or VMID
  • HA manager: Added CRM command to switch an online node manually into maintenance (without reboot).
  • CRS: rebalance VMs & containers automatically on start
As always, we have included countless bugfixes and improvements on many places; see the release notes for all details.

Yeah :) Time to update our test-clusters ;-) Thanks for the update!

Edit: How can I enable the maintenance mode?
Found it: root@PMX1:~# ha-manager crm-command node-maintenance enable PMX1

Awesome! Does the new maintenance mode use the new CRS to move VMs?
Yes, it uses the configured CRS scheduler, ensure to set that to static in the Datacenter -> Options -> CRS edit, to get the new improved static-resource aware algorithm (we might change defaults on a major release).

Note that it isn't exactly new, it re-uses the same infrastructure that the migration shutdown-policy used since a few releases, which also uses the configured CRS selection mechanism.

Wow, awesome release and Dark Mode looks fantastic.

HA manager: Added CRM command to switch an online node manually into maintenance (without reboot)
Can someone explain, how to put a node into maintenance mode manually?

via shell: ha-manager crm-command node-maintenance enable PMX1

  • The EFI System Partition (ESP) defaults to 1 GiB of size if the root disk partition (hdsize) is bigger than 100 GB.
Will this be a problem in the next few years with existing PVE installations with 512M ESPs running out of space?

And just a reminder: Don't forget to do the CTRL+F5 to see the 7.4 webUI

No problems with my encrypted PVE nodes yet.

you might have to pay a bit more attention to kernels being put on the ESPs, or we might be more aggressive in proxmox-boot-tool when copying kernels if the target ESP is small.. the bump is just to allow more headspace for now.

I'd not worry too much about that, the change was mostly done for future-proofing with head-room, as it's a bit hard to predict the exact direction booting will go, e.g., with the unified kernel images (UKI), but even then the 512 MB should have room for three kernels even if the initrd is unusually big. FWIW, I have a setup with three auto-installed and two pinned kernels, so 5 kernels in total and still got 139 MB available.

The dark theme was a real surprise, when it got revealed two weeks ago.
Thank you very much for this and all your work and effort in general! :)

Hi there.
I am glad that the backup job window finally shows up correctly, but as soon I click in advanced, the window hide the create button.
After that I hit F11 and go to full screen to see the create button and to be able to deselect the advanced box!
I hope this can be fixed soon!

After click in advenced:

Still no info about "cattle not pets" project ? ;););)
Is the manual maintenance and new CRS scheduling point not enough for you as one small step in that direction? ;)
ps. we updated the motto to "cattles AND pets", to clarify that both should work well (and better in the future!) in Proxmox VE

what's your resolution that you're using there? We target 1280x720 (i.e., 720p) as minimum one for the Proxmox VE GUI.
