Proxmox Datacenter Manager - First Alpha Release

During my experience using the Proxmox Datacenter Manager (version 0.1.7 Alpha), I noticed that the interface for viewing the list of VMs and containers within a node is constrained to a small area. This limitation becomes especially noticeable when managing a node with a large number of VMs and containers.

The current interface does not provide an effective way to scroll through and view the entire list of VMs/containers comfortably. This forces frequent scrolling or other workarounds, which can be inefficient, especially when dealing with a node hosting many instances. Additionally, the display area is not resizable, further limiting usability.

Suggestions for Improvement:

  1. Resizable Panel for Lists:
Allow users to resize the VM/container list panel dynamically to view more entries at once. This could greatly enhance user experience, especially on larger screens.
  2. Dedicated Full-Screen Mode or Popup:
Provide an option to open the list of VMs/containers in a full-screen mode or as a separate popup window. This would make it easier to browse, search, and manage instances.
  3. Pagination or Infinite Scrolling:
Introduce pagination or infinite scrolling for the list of VMs and containers, ensuring the interface remains responsive even with hundreds of instances.
  4. Advanced Filtering and Sorting:
Add more robust filtering and sorting options directly within the list to help users locate specific VMs or containers quickly.
  5. Adaptive Layout:
Improve the UI layout to automatically adjust and allocate more space to the list when the user interface is displayed on larger monitors.

Running 2 PVE nodes 8.3.2 and just created a VM of the Data Center. Just wanted to let you know that this is a Great start with this Data Center !
I noticed that the guest agent is not working and I can not shutdown that Data Center VM when running backups with PBS.
Keep up the Great Work !

Error updates?

E: dpkg was interrupted, you must manually run 'dpkg --configure -a' to correct the problem.

oot@pdm:/# dpkg --configure -a
Setting up proxmox-datacenter-manager (0.1.8) ...
proxmox-datacenter-manager-daily-update.service is a disabled or a static unit not running, not starting it.

Please see this reply:

Yeah, we now finally got around to tracking that down and should be fixed with the next version 0.1.9 of the proxmox-datacenter-manager package. Note that the initial upgrade to that version might still be broken, but once on runs the fixed version upgrades from within the API/UI should run fine and do not interrupt anymore.

Congratulations on the launch. This already looks amazing, and it's only alpha. I think it's really great that y'all made it available so early in the development cycle so the community could start participating in finding bugs and edge cases now.

I'm really looking forward to deploying this in production some day. :)

an lxc with basic debian is way more resource effcient to run pdm

Hello guys. I have problem to add new remote PVE. How i can delete old token? Where storage path token?

api error (status = 400 Bad Request): error creating token: api error (status = 400 Bad Request): Parameter verification failed.tokenid: Token already exists.

Just installed PDM in a Debian container ... everything went smoothly, up and running without a hitch.
Added my home PVE, hosted PVE, as well as a virtual PVE cluster. All went well, again without any noticeable problems. So, on that front, your Alpha is better than many Betas I've seen (or even regular releases). Definitely looks nice as a central management interface.

Just a few initial impressions/points I noticed:
* in the dashboard, the charts are somewhat unclear at first sight, and don't give too much of information. Seeing 10 "highest CPU usage" bars, all of them identical on first sight (green blocks), apart from the popup when you actually get to the colored part (not up too long yet)
* when doing a cluster migration of a VM, no feedback is given in the PDM view (apart from the initial popup) if anything is happening
* for cluster view, RRD graphs for the average of all the nodes would be nice (displayed when none of the nodes are selected)
* when the node a cluster was registered with is down, the whole cluster isn't visible anymore. PDM should learn the other node IPs and be able to use any node to query the cluster state

this is normal, use a other Token ID..pve-other...

i added my cluster and some single pve nodes, i do not have the Network Traffic and Disk I/O, Overview, any ideas?
Thanks, and Merry Christmas to everyone

I wonder if it'll have a backup and restore functions for Proxmox itself ? Nice if it could run on PI as well ...?

Seen a Lot of nice feature requests.. Here is mine coming from a network admin point of view.
Under the dashboard Usage a commutative bandwidth in/out .
It would give me a quick glance at what amount of traffic Id expect to see crossing the data center switches.

I've installed PDM on a VM. I have connected PDM via my domain on Port 443. If I want to open the Host with "Open Web UI", then it will be redirected to Domain:8006. That is not ideal.

Amazing, I've been looking for something like this. So far the only suggestion I have, is that there is an option for setting up the URL that the links redirect to for each cluster/node. I have all of my clusters behind reverse proxies and have webauthn tokens / OIDC for login. Those won't work when redirecting to the server's IP, instead of the proxied domain name.

Adding a field for something like URL root during the setup wizard could solve this.
