I have been testing both PBS and PVE backups to a NFS Synology share over the past 2 weeks.
Noticed that backups using PBS are much larger saving to the NFS share then the PVE backups are.
PVE format is saving as .zst and PBS are saved as .pbsvm with no option to change the backup format.
Am I missing something?

Hi,

the size display for vma and pbs backups are not really comparable, since the vma size is the actual file size on disk, but for pbs this calculation is not really possible due to deduplication so we just show the disk size of the vm.
to see how much data pbs backups use, you must consider the whole datastore size on pbs, not any single backup

Noted, I've read this but I was more concerned that possibly Synology BTRFS was not allowing the zst compression. I check again this morning and it appears the PBS backups/deduplication is running fast and the garbage collection is working as expected...
