PCIe Passthrough ID Changes - Breaks Passthrough to VM

Hi all,

I am using PCIe passthrough to pass a SAS HBA through to a VM. I did this using the web interface in the hardware section for the VM.

Everything was working fine until the other day when I had to power down the server. After it booted back up, the VM in question would no longer start as it could not find the PCIe device. The ID for that device had changed following the shutdown. I re-added the card again from the list and everything worked again. As a test I rebooted the server again, and the same thing happened again.

Is there a different method of passing through this SAS HBA to make that more reliable?

Thanks,

FS

well the id is decided by the bios and kernel, there is not really much we can do here
there is no real way to uniquely identify pci devices aside from the slot they are sitting in
(vendor/id can be duplicate, afaik there is no standard serial mechanism there)
