Packages kept back on upgrade to 6.0 with glusterfs official repo

pve-qemu-kvm 4.0.0-5 (available in pvetest) has adapted dependencies that should cope with the broken upstream packaging. you might need to do a "apt install --reinstall glusterfs-client glusterfs-common" or "apt install --reinstall glusterfs-client glusterfs-common glusterfs-server" (depending on your use-case) to switch to the the upstream repo version:
Code:
# apt install --reinstall glusterfs-client glusterfs-common

@malevolent 3.x is EOL ... same as 4.0 ...
Yes, I know. But I have a lot of high performance gluster on too many clients and none of them will upgrade until newer version will be as fast and stable as 3.12.15. Several of them are hospitals where the mantra is "Better the devil you know than the devil you don't know yet", and to be honest, versions 4 and 5 of gluster were full of bugs, memory leaks and low performance. I'd readed latest versions (5.8 and 6.4) had corrected those problems, but now proxmox seems to be stuck at 5.5

@Dark26: your repository configuration must be broken somehow - in the second output packages are held back even though you are dist-upgrading..

do you have pve-qemu-kvm 4.0.0-5 installed?
My bad, forgot to upgrade pve-qemu-kvm.
After upgrading from pvetest no problems upgrading... well, you need to specify you want to upgrade as well gluserfs-server if you have it installed, of course.

EDITED: even adding glusterfs-server, installation fails if you had glusterfs-server installed as libgfchangelog0 is both in glusterfs-common and glustefs-server, so I had to remove glusterfs-server and installing it after the upgrade.

Thanks!

that sounds like a bug outside of our control - feel free to add it to the upstream issue: https://github.com/gluster/glusterfs-debian/issues/32 or report in Debian, depending on where the problem actually is.

Actually it's broken because of the problem of glusterfs.

the packages pve-qemu-kvm qemu-server spiceterm failed the dependency.

 pve-qemu-kvm : Dépend: libspice-server1 (>= 0.14.0~)
                Dépend: libgfapi0 mais ne sera pas installé
                Dépend: libgfrpc0 mais ne sera pas installé
                Dépend: libgfxdr0 mais ne sera pas installé
                Dépend: libglusterfs0 mais ne sera pas installé
E: Impossible de corriger les problèmes, des paquets défectueux sont en mode « garder en l'état ».

Thee the problem is libglusterfs0

With the new repository maybe it's work but 600 mo it's a lot ! There is a lots of librairy that i don't think are necesseray... (
mesa-va-drivers mesa-vdpau-drivers va-driver-all vdpau-driver-all for exemple ... )

Qemu dependacy?

it's libspice-server1 which had a lot of dependency.

Yes 5.5-5.7. were not good ones ... 5.8 works well for me
Well, version 5 (and 6 as far as I can see) are far slower than 3.12.15, my VMs are now 2/3 slower. Lets see if ZFS can do some magic... but for now it's a big disappointment.

Now we can install any version, perhaps I downgrade to version 3.12.15 again.

Hello there, (I am fairly new to Proxmox, Gluster and this forum),

I hope this information can help:

this night all my proxmox nodes (5.4 and 6.0) started to complain about an apt source missing (download.gluster.org);

searching about this subject, I found this mail thread on the Gluster-users mail list:

[Gluster-users] Important: Debian and Ubuntu packages are changing
*I can not post the URL but Google will do the job if you use the string above*

if this message is inappropriate, please, let me know and I will delete it.

Yeeayy it seems that they removed the packages for Debian Stretch from the Comunity Repo ... why ever ... I asked on glusterfs mailinglist ... but kind of off-topic for here

Just for the record. With Debian 10 (or Proxmox 6) we cannot longer use Gluster 3.12.15 as it uses the deprecated liblvm2app. I managed to install the 3.12.15 version in one of my nodes, but on the other two was impossible to start the server daemon, and glusterfs-common had some dependencies unresolved... so I got upward to gluster 6.5. Luckily, I could move the VMs to other storage and I could recreate the bricks at pleasure.

I read about your experiences with the bad performance (didn't test myself yet), but 3.12 has reached its EOL long ago.

Consequently, I'd recommend a more recent version of Gluster. PVE 6 now installs Gluster from Debian (5.5) as well as the latest Gluster 6.5 without any problems.
