[SOLVED] Grub + dnodesize = auto => grub rescue, unknown filesystem

One interesting thing about Grub and ZFS with large dnodes is that the same author who had previously added support for various ZFS features in Grub sent a patch in 2017 (Experimental!) and also asked for help in testing his implementation.

https://lists.gnu.org/archive/html/grub-devel/2017-09/msg00049.html

I found the thread recently and intended to try it out but could not get Grub to compile normally on a Proxmox system during my initial testing, not a problem related to the patch. I found it easier to just reinstall with large dnode feature disabled on that particular system.

The admin guide states to use the DD mode when creating a USB data stick in Rufus. I missed it on my first time through. You are able to select DD mode at the prompt after clicking Start on the first screen. Here are my settings and steps in creating the USB data stick to install Proxmox.

RUFUS SETTINGS
Boot selection: proxmox-ve-7.0-1.iso
Partition scheme: GPT
Target system: UEFI (non CSM)
File system: FAT32 (Default)
Cluster size: 16 kilobytes (Default)
[check mark] Create extended label and icon files

click Start button

[click radio button] Write in DD Image mode

click OK button
