Hey Guys,

I am very new to Proxmox, and looking at it to replace ESX, as our costs have ramped up. I do appreciate these are newbie questions, however before I get some hardware to create a lab and learn I wanted to learn from the Kings here !

So to cut a long story short, im just looking at hardware to test with at the moment, similar hardware to what we are running at the moment.

And thinking of using :
Powervault ME5024 (All SSD) With 8 10GBE SFP+ (Our infrastructure with VM has many of these)
Two other Dell servers R640's etc, for processing / running VM's etc

MY questions are :
With the Powervault, it is all shared storage connected with round robin using ISCSI , Is this advisable with Proxmox ? What are the actual options ?
With ESX, we had the ability to have local swap drives on each host, to help speed up processing etc - Is that something that is supported / needed.

Something that I have not seen meantioned in the tonns of articles I have been reading is about live guest to host migration, Is this something that is supported ?

Thank you again I appreciate it !.

Yes, a similar configuration is achievable with Proxmox. Note that if you are collocating Corosync traffic with your iSCSI traffic, the recommended network configuration is LACP. Its a bit more difficult to achieve RR with LACP, but it is possible.
The actual RR is set in MultiPath, which is the same package/software that is used on any other Linux installation.

There is something called Swap in Debian Linux (which PVE is using as a base). However, it's for times when the host is short on memory. Ideally, you'd never want anything going to Swap on disk.
There are other situations where similar concepts are used. For example, fleecing storage for backup. However, that is not the same as the ESXi swap.
In short, you don't need to worry about swapping with PVE, in most cases.

Its not clear to me what you meant here. Can you clarify?
