At the moment this is not possible, because proxmox-backup-client checks that the input file is either a directory (in case of pxar) or a regular file (in case you wanted to try something a little bit hacky like saving as a .log or .conf).
The best solution would probably be to write a script that saves the dump in a temporary file, makes a backup and deletes it immediately after, but i know this goes against what you wanted.
