There must be something not in the docs for us old legacy guys with no 512 partition. Just went thru the same adventure I posted in this thread.. https://forum.proxmox.com/threads/proxmox-boot-tool-resize-or-go-back-to-grub.139682/
I just now ran the same command to get the system back...
Proxmox 7.4-3
legacy system
It appears at some time I got the proxmox boot tool installed.. (haven't rebooted the server in a long long time)
When rebooted today, got the "proxmox grub unknown filesystem" at boot.
Got it running now with a 6.2 install version of rescue mode. yeah!
However...
Oh, and the command the customer runs is: switchdrives
Note, it needs "dialog" installed apt-get install dialog
In that bash script is this:
#!/bin/bash
getscript() {
pgrep -lf ".[ /]$1( |\$)"
}
mailto=root
drivename=backup_offsite
drivepath=/mnt/$drivename
directory=dump

I suggest you NOT mount the backup drive in fstab. What I settled on is mounting by drive label.
Here's what I do to prep a drive and give it a drive label.
######### Prep backup drives Note: this will wipe the drive.

I've one machine that has been upgraded through time..
I have no local-zfs in my storage and df does not show an rpool/data directory.
Is there a way to create it so I can have a "local-zfs" option in storage?
Just wanted to add to this thread a quick note. I use ufw on proxmox, if you change networks, check your ufw rules. Or other firewall rules.. I'd forgotten all about it.
I ordered a 9211-81 from ebay with cables for 60.00. Seems to work just great at first load so far.
Also, I did not need the cables as the cables for the h700 worked just fine.
Lovely.... Thanks for the help. Just wanted to make sure and give some feedback...
Ooops, forgot to ad, was...
I just ordered this server with 128g ram. Got in a bit of a hurry and now notice you can not put the H700 raid in IT mode for pass-though so I can use ZFS.
Anyone know of a fix for this? Or recommend a replacement card I can use?
Note: Will have 6 sata drives.
Am looking into that as we speak. Big learning curve and need to purchase a managed switch that will do vlan.
So to be clear, With the switch in place, and one vm on say 152.65.36.36 needs to talk directly to the vm on 254.35.22.51, the switch will realize not to send the traffic either of the...
What I have is one nic
connected to a switch
switch connected to two differant uverse lines with static ip's.
It seems I can just enter the ip info in the vm for the second uverse connection, however cannot then see the other vms.
What's would be a good way for the vm's to still talk...

Well, I was wrong about samba. It's the second time I move the big file that it goes fast. Maybe coming from l2arc the second time.

I've got a 4th machine with 4 drives I can take the raid card out of. More results in a bit..
Well, here's one for you guys. I added to my smb.conf
strict allocate = yes
And got the copies from the file server in a vm from 64mbs to 130mbs
Wow!!! Big difference!
As for pveperf?
I've no more ideas. It's just dead slow on 3 machines.
Raid 10 with 4 drives.
From this site. https://icesquare.com/wordpress/how-to-improve-zfs-performance/
I got this command, dd if=/dev/zero of=./file.out bs=1M count=10k
Here are the results, I don't know if they really mean anything.

Hmm, I just ran the test on the test machine and it's similar results. Curious that the machine have little in common.
The test machine is a consumer board with 6gps sata ports with 32 gig ram. I just now put a samsung 850 pro in it, setup the log and cache and had about the same increase.

From the proxmox docs: The maximum size of a log device should be about half the size of physical memory.
So I figured about 1/2 of the 120 was about right.. Best I change it?
