Going to assemble a new proxmox host soon and am planning to use a 256GB m.2 drive for booting system. Will have 4x1TB HDs for VM's (raid 10 zfs) . Will use ext USB drive for VM backups..
I have read that you should setup the system first, then connect the hds, reboot and configure storage ...
I am having the same issue - Did some updates on a new Debian10 container, rebooted, and same error,,
I have an external USB connected to the proxmox host - I can seee the backups on the device when logged into the proxmox gui (in fact, I did a backup of the Debian CT on this device
Which...
Thank you for the reply - I have not deided abt host #1, but good to know clusters support live migrations.
My power supply arrived today, so lookes like a productive weekend is ahead.
THX - Looks like a nice backup solution .. I am retiring a 16GB / 2T ESXi box - think I will re-purpose with zfs.
Also found a nice explanation on automating pve-zsync ...
I will be making another Proxmox host in the near future -
I am planning to use the backup files on an external USB to restore the VM's on the new host -- (obviously being sure to shut them down on the first host.). First host is LVM, second I am planning to use ZFS (just bec I want to learn...
THX-
This appears to require a cluster environment -- I will have 2 Proxmox boxes..one is using LVM ... would the pve-sync be possible in this environment ?
THX - I got the external dribe connected, mounted and have done a few backups to it -- still not sure on the recommended backup metod - this is a home lab, and I have no plm shutting down the VM or container before doing the backup ... I understand that stop mode is the best for consistency ..
Hello-
May seem like a silly question -
I am wondering if Proxmox uses ZFS, what the VM Backup process is - I was hoping to use a removable external USB 1TB hdd. Is this possible, or do I need to make backups to internal drive, then copy to external ? Could I use a NAS for backups ?
THX as...
Today I just noticed that the summary section of Datacenter says I am using 10.2 TB of 15 TB ...
How can this be, when the total phusical storageis abt 6T ??? (4 spinning HD's )
When I goto the proxmox node, and look at Disks, all 4 are listed, with the correct capacities ...
I do have...
Thx - I remember someone at work telling me the same thing. Not all MB's made the same
So I followed the advice, and made sure it supported NVMe before purchase ..
so this is the MB I got, an MSI B450M Pro VDH-Plus and the specs show it supports NVMe as it brags "
Turbo M.2: Running at PCI-E...
Thank you - and that is just what I was thinkung - I only have 4 on-board sata ports on the MB, so wanted to avoid getting a controller board..the MSI Motherboard does support boot from m.2, and it is my understanding that the recent Linux kernels support nvme boot.
I was thinking that I might...
Wondering if it is advisable to build a new proxmox using a 256GB nvme m.2 as boot drive ?
Still looking for a good guide to setting up storage properly in zfs. Does the m.2 get setup as zfs ?
My idea was boot from m.2, and 4 sata devices connected (4 x 1 TB) raid 10 ... (I think ZFS uses a...
Thanks - I guess I found that not all SATA boards are Linux=compatible. Was wondering if anyone can suggest one that they know works in a Linux environment.
THX,
Just got the same board for a new Proxmox build - will be interested in this thread ..
I think I will go with the Ryzen 2200G - going to use ZFS this time, with M.2 device to boot.
Want to add sata Hard drive, and need additional SATA port.
Can anyone recommend a proxmox-compatible pci-e SATA controller board ? all 4 SATA ports of my mb are populated.
THX,
