Thanks for reply. Its hw raid ext4 so should be ok. It is only for me as single developer. Ill run verify but it takes a long time as not done it for a while.
The problem is "restore failed: blob too small (0 bytes)." when trying to restore VM. I have resolved it as did not need to rely on the backup. But more of a worry is that I had this issue before see my post in 2022. I need to sort out the verification tasks. It would make sense if there was a...
I was trying to convert raw disks to qcow2 in order to enable snapshots. So ran qm convert all good. Then rescan and connect the new boot disk to scsi all good. Then attempted to do the same with EFI but you do not get an option to choose an existing ie the converted disk. Instead a new one is...
In the docs.

For ext 4 directory storage note 2 it states snapshot is possible for qcow2. However i get the message "The current guest configuration does not support taking new snapshots"
Am I missing something else in the...

Buy a cheap secondhand pc from ebay/faceache and put pbs on that with a couple of hard disks. Set it up to start run for an hour then shutdown and schedule backups to alternate drives each day. If you are paranoid buy 2.
I run my workstation setup on non-enterprise disks without a problem. I have various guests for testing etc. I would replace the HGST with sata ssd with two pairs in a mirror raid and boot pve off one pair. Then use the nvme for whichever vm you need most performance. Use ext4/lvm why bother...
Ok for best performance for a windows 10 VM (my workstation) on a 2 socket * 8 core cpu's motherboard. I enable numa and allocate 4 cores and 2 sockets or 1 socket and 8 cores ? Its a home lab with just me as the user. The server is lightly used as I have a bunch of VM's which I use the...
In the guide it states "If the NUMA option is used, it is recommended to set the number of sockets to the number of nodes of the host system" I am confused I thought this meant set the Vm's to 2 sockets if you have 2 sockets on the motherboard ?
If you passthrough the ports you can plug whatever you want in the guest. However these usb ports will not be available to the host and you can only have one guest attached at a time.
Microsoft rely on partners to do support and seems to have worked out ok for them. The PVE team have their perfectly valid plan which is developing the product. This is a clear business opportunity for a partner. This approach makes sense to me.
