Hello everyone,

i have an issue regarding zfs and proxmox storage.

I have a 4x 4Tb sata disk as a ZFSZ1 raid installed. Proxmox tells me that 10.24TiB are available. However i cant create a a 10TiB VM Disk for this.

To show you were i think the problem might come from i figured out following things.

I added this Storage to a NAS-VM.

The Storage shows me that 2.90TiB are used.

However when i look at the VM Disks its only.

Where does the difference of close to 50% more space needed come from? How can i fix it?
In a previous setup i was able to use more than 8 TiB which is now not possible.

Thanks for your help/your advice.

Best regards
Leo

Hi,

same issue here; short facts on this:
  • 6x 480 GByte Samsung datacenter SSDs
  • RAIDZ2
  • ZFS storage having a total of 1.68 TB free volume (ok so far due to "RAID Z2")
But why does a 50 GByte virtual disk eat up ~102 GByte of space from the usable amount of 1.68 TB?

Thanks for explanation.

And also it is recommended to not fill up a ZFS pool beyond 80% ...
