ZFS config options for archival storage.

Looking for some advice on the best way to setup storage on my homelab PVE.
Currently I have 4, 10tb drives formatted with EXT4 in OMV managed by Snapraid and grouped with MergerFS for sharing. The setup effectively has 3 drives for data, and 1 for parity.
The primary use is bulk archival storage, and performance only needs to saturate a 1gb link. Faster would be great, but not needed at this point.
The main issue is OMV's SMB sharing is broken for me. That's led me to considering a ZFS pool directly on Proxmox or possibly in a TrueNAS Scale VM.

I now have 9, 10tb drives available. Is it better to go with a zpool containing 2 raidz1 vdevs, or 1 raidz2 vdev? The 9th drive will be a hot spare.
If I understand correctly, I could add more storage to the pool but adding another vdev of the same size as the existing ones. If that's the case, the 2x raidz1 is easier for me, compared to the 8 drive raidz2.
Is the risk of running raidz1 high enough with 10tb drives, that I should just settle for the raidz2 config, and stick it out until (hopefully) raidz expansion hits?
