Windows VM using a lot of RAM

Hi

I installed several Windows VM's in two different dedicated machines using Proxmox 8.
When i start the VM's, they use a lot ram.
Seems to be a general problem, that's why i tested in different dedicated servers.
I followed this tutorial: https://pve.proxmox.com/wiki/Windows_2022_guest_best_practices
The options i'm using:
Ballooning (Minimum ram: 1000mb Maximum ram: 64GB)
Cpu = Host
SeaBios + pc-i440-fx-8.0
I need to restart the VM's several times so it uses the normal ram.

Any solution?

System: Proxmox 8 (latest version)
VM's system: Windows 10

What is "normal RAM" for you? Windows needs A LOT of RAM with nothing installed. The ballooning range you use is gigantous ... why???

Maybe ballooning does not work like you think it works? The VM gets 64GB until the Proxmox host memory usage gets to 80%, then it starts taking away memory from the VM until its at 1000MB (regardless of whether the VM might actually need the memory!).

Because the game servers i host need a lot of ram, that's why 64GB (50% of the dedicated server ram).

windows reserve all memory from hypervisor at boot. (filling all memory pages).

You can't do nothing about that.

ksm will deduplicate 0 pages when you'll reach 80%. (or ballonning can also reduce && freeup this memory)
