hello all, for the past two days i have been trying to setup a windows server 2019 vm on proxmox but i keep getting getting the same error "Error code: 0x80070570 Windows cannot install required files " i so far have tried re-downloading os image and virtio driver, disabling and enabling cache.

not really sure what do do, i would appreciate if someone could help me out

below is the config file:

At what point are you getting the error?
I always set up my windows with only a single cd drive and I've never had an issue, is it possibly because the Windows ISO is in the second cd drive and not the first?

Here is the config from one of my Windows 2019 vms.

hello,
i am getting the issue when i try to install windows on that disk, it gets stuck on getting files ready for installation, then i get the error

I am also suddenly getting this error, tried to install another VM with same settings and same ISO and it shows same issue (previous VM installed and the 2nd does not)

Same issue here trying to install Windows 10 onto VM. Existing Win10 VM working OK.

update:
I read somewhere else on the forum that the Windows Media Creation tool was causing the problem. Download the Windows 10 ISO and that worked for me, but not Windows 11 (yet).

In my case I downloaded the Image again (Win Server 2019 Eval EN) and then it worked without issues for me.

Had the same issue.

* Win 10 multi-edition, english international, x64, 22H2, selecting to install Pro.
* Have tried selecting different storage, moving the ISO image (was previously on a samba server, moved it to local storage), and creating a new VM in case the config was corrupted somehow. None of these made any difference.
* Downloaded a new copy of the Windows ISO image from Microsoft (this time I didn't paste the URL into Proxmox VE but downloaded it on my desktop and then uploaded it through the web interface). The file size was the same, but I ran sha1sum on them and they were different.
* Like the first poster I'm using virtio-scsi and had the virtio CD image in the first CD drive, the Windows disc in the second. I swapped the two of them over.

One of the last two above solved the issue for me. Still no idea why this happened.

pretty much same problem as everyone else and the issue for me was the Windows 11 iso from "Download from URL" (Proxmox said it passed the hash check). I was able to download it directly with a verified hash.

Ended up resolving this. Media was fine in all regards, whether downloaded via GUI/moved in from NFS/uploaded etc.

Original:

  • HDD on VirtIO SCSI Single (DRBD-backed and Proxmox-integrated shared storage, in case that helps someone searching)
  • Windows ISO on ide2
  • virtio drivers ISO on sata0
  • Install failed identical to screenshot in previous post

I adjusted as follows:

  • Windows ISO remains on ide2
  • virtio drivers ISO on ide3
  • Selected Windows boot ISO manually with escape
  • Installed, booted to Windows, went through additional virtio driver installs then removed both CD-ROM drives
