Hi,

I know it's crazy but some customer of mine still have Windows 98 PC that drive mecanical industrie equipement via the serial port.

They dont have Application disk, so they can't reinstall the application on another version of Windows.

Question:

1) Would you think that I can clone the Physical Windows 98 PC in a kvm guest ( with clonezilla)
2) Connect serial port 1 to this only Vm that will run on proxmox ?
3) Is there a vmtool equivalent that I would need in windows 98 so that I can see the network and the serial port ?
4) Will parrallel port work too ?

PS: It would be great to have a step by step install document in the wiki on how to create Windows VM in KVM even Linux kvm, what driver should we use and all that we should do and dont do ;-)

Thanks in advance

Hi,
http://www.linux-kvm.org/page/Guest_Support_Status
looks not so good for you. Perhaps you can try the software on a win2000? Perhaps the software doesn't need a installation and copy is enough.

Hi,

I just found out that if we call qemu with this option--no-kvm it will boot windows 98

Do you know if I there a way to pass specific option to a kvm vm in proxmox

Thanks

Great thanks

We will see this vm is only sending command to en electric bench via serial port and we don't need speed at all so I'll try to clone the actual machine and try to boot it in proxmox with those options and will let you know.

Thanks

you can use the GUI to disable KVM (see options). and yes, win98se will boot up but I never get it running in a reliable way.

Hi Tom,

Thanks for the info ...

Maybe if I can boot this vm and upgrade it to Win XP and hopefully the application will still work, at leat I will try !
