Does anyone know what is going on?

What happend before you tried to start the VM?

Code:
echo Y > /sys/module/kvm/parameters/ignore_msrs
One thing that you could try is to disable the msrs on the node and try to start the VM. This may have various results to the performance/stability of the VM.

Looks like that command helped.

The node was running fine (already started VMs are still running without a problem, CTs also could be started and stoppen), but at some point the starting of VMs was no longer possible and resulted in the posted error.

but at some point the starting of VMs was no longer possible and resulted in the posted error.
But at what point, did you do updates before or was the VM running on a different machine?

Same problem here, cannot start VMs. (tried with Alwin suggestion, but it gets stucked at booting from hard disk...)

The Proxmox server is an AMD-FX8350 with 24GB RAM.

Regarding the reboot, I'm not sure since I'm connected remotely (through a VPN running on a pfSense VM on this host) so if I reboot it probably the VM's will not start so I will loose all connectivity.

Can you test what Alwin suggested? (update to the lastest packages and reboot to activate the new kernel)

I will do this test during the night.
For the time being the problem was resolved with the hint suggested above.

echo Y > /sys/module/kvm/parameters/ignore_msrs
