VM Console Access in Datacenter Manager?

Hi all,

I’ve been working with the new Proxmox Datacenter Manager and noticed something that surprised me. It doesn’t seem to offer a way to view or interact with a VM’s console directly from the Datacenter Manager interface. Right now it looks like you still have to open the individual PVE host and access the VM console from there.

Other platforms like XOA and VMware vSphere/vCenter let you open the console straight from the central management UI without touching the host at all. In our setup, some of our techs aren’t allowed to log into the PVE nodes themselves, similar to how they only worked inside vCenter with VMware. Having one place to log in and manage consoles makes things a lot simpler and keeps permissions cleaner.

Just wondering are there any plans for Proxmox to add this? It feels like a pretty standard feature for centralized management tools, and it would definitely help in environments where host access is restricted.

Thanks,

John

yes, there are plans for this. PDM 1.0.0 has node shell access using xterm.js, we plan to extend this to support noVNC and spice as well to allow guest terminal access as well. with xterm.js, it would be limited to containers and VMs with serial console, we wanted to support the full range from the start instead of shipping a halfway there feature.
