I wrote to the USB with Rufus using dd mode.
I replaced quiet with nomodeset on the 'Linux line in grub
I get the echoed output, then two flashes of the cursor in the top left corner, and the screen goes and remains blank (and have waited over 40 minutes)

I have also attempted installing Debian netinst same issue
I was able to install windows 10 off a USB with no issues.

Is there anything else I could try?

I have tried many of these security settings
https://support.hp.com/gb-en/document/c01747663
but I cannot find a setting that refers to uefi the security section has the following:

  • Data Execution Prevention—Enables or disables Data Execution Prevention mode in the CPUs. This mode prohibits code from running in pages that were set up as data pages and prevent attacks such as buffer overflows. Operating system support is required for this feature.
  • Virtualization Technology (VTx)—Enables or disables Intel Virtualization Technology to increase workstation performance.
  • Virtualization Technology for Directed I/O (VT–d2)—Enables a virtual machine to gain exclusive control of a hardware device, such as a graphics card.
  • Embedded Security Device—This option becomes available if Embedded Device is set to Available.

I have the DEP and TPM Disabled and the two VT options Enabled.

Thanks

I think/hope you have another shortcut at boot time for enter to UEFI settings. But if windows work and not linux, it's a software stop

I am only seeing

f9 Boot
f10 Setup
f12 Network

I tried a few other of the f keys just now on the off chance they may not be shown on screen - not surprisingly there was no joy with that either.

It looks like I may reluctantly need to go with Hyper-V now that Monday approaches :(

Did you retry to recreqte your instqllqtion stick? I've no more idea after that :/

I did - trying various settings in Rufus, too, when creating proxmox and the debian installer.
I'm up and running with Hyper-v and have installed the 5 Debian VMs I need for tomorrow.
Maybe I'll have another go when this project is done.

Thank you for your efforts Pifouney
