Ok so I know this is a total NOOB question, but whenever I assume things it always bits me back.

Soon I will have an extra Intel quad core that I am hoping to repurpose in my proxmox box. Changing from a dual 2.8ghz to a quad 2.4ghz.
My question is would I have to reinstall proxmox and the KVMs if I switch the cpu? I am assuming it won’t be a problem but I don’t want any surprises. I would be the one to just do it and find out it doesn’t work and then not have made any backups..

Thanks

Hi,
no it's linux - you can switch the cpu like you want - if you have amd64.

Only if you use the VM-switch cpu=host for windows-VMs, they can have trouble - but this is windows...
