Upgrade 4.4-18 Cluster with Ceph Hammer

Hi,

I've a 3 node PVE 4.4-18 Cluster with Ceph Hammer and one day I want to upgrade to PVE 5, if possible in place. I've read that PVE 5 requires Ceph Luminous 12.2 and that Ceph has to be upgraded in advance. A post in the Ceph blog says, that 12.2 is released, so a upgrade may be possible. Sadly I've no test lab ...

What is best practice to upgrade my setup in place? Is it possible/recommended to use the new Proxmox Ceph repositories? The CPUs in my servers are old E5620. Are these still OK for Ceph?

I recommend you wait for 5.1.

And what about the Cehp upgrade path, the CPU and the repo?

you need to upgrade to Jewel, then to Luminous on 4.4, then upgrade the nodes to PVE 5 and finally switch over to our own Luminous repo. detailed howtos for all of that will be made available
