[SOLVED] unstable iscsi storage

Hello guys,
this is my first post in this forum, sorry for anything

I have a proxmox 5.1-35 host with a remote storage for KVM guests. This storage runs ubuntu server 16.04 and a iscsitarget service. The host uses a LVM storage on top of this iscsi.

We are expecting some instability on the iscsi connection, about 3 or 4 time a day. In these periods, the guests become unresponsive. After a short period (1,2 minutes) everything runs fine again

This servers, and the connection run on real IPs, but the latency is usually good (0.2 ms)

We did the same ping test with other server, and the packet loss does not occur. So I don't think this is a network problem.

We also see a gap on host's interface graph, on given periods

Anyone already expect these issues?

Your network looks overloaded. Check your network monitoring, those peaks should be visible there.

But, if this is the cause, do you think that rate limiting the VMs interfaces would help?

That shows the network from the PVE host, but what about the rest of the network? Any other machines or switches in between? And what does the iscsi host have in its log files?

No, this will just obscure the congestion. So you will notice it later again or on other machines. The network statistic from the server shows not much bandwidth is taken by the server, so it must sit somewhere else on the network (or stack).
 
I didn't found any logs about iscsitarget service.

do you think that tweaking the host's sysctl file would help?

I also test the network using another server, and everything looks normal there.

I am thinking that the problem is on the host. Is possible that the host is overloaded and can't handle the network requests?

2 x CPU Intel Xeon E5-2420
128 GB RAM

As you are experiencing network issues (see your ping), I suggest to check your network (local and foreign).
 
The problem was really the network
I connected the machines directly and now everything is fine
