Hi everyone,

Like the title says, I was having issues after a failed update. Now when I try to boot I'm hitting a grub rescue prompt. I' trying to follow this guide: https://pve.proxmox.com/wiki/Recover_From_Grub_Failure, however, I'm being shown this error when I try to mount root to the RESCUE folder. Does anyone know what I should do next?

From which version were you upgrading from? And which version to?

If you are booting into a Grub Rescue prompt, I think the first best step would be to first try reinstall grub. You can do this by:
1. Downloading the latest Proxmox VE iso -> https://www.proxmox.com/en/downloads/category/iso-images-pve
2. Creating a bootable usb -> https://pve.proxmox.com/wiki/Prepare_Installation_Media
3. Booting with debug mode. This will start a minimal live environment. -> https://pve.proxmox.com/wiki/Installation
4. Reinstall grub -> https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Grub2/Installing#via_Terminal_Commands

Hi Dylan,

Sorry, I should have closed this. I did try the steps above but it was still failing. I ended up starting fresh with a new install. I also had originally installed on a USB stick, which I think was the cause of the errors. I now have it installed on an SSD. Thank you!

Don't waste your time using an USB stick!
Have done this for a long time and the issue hit me every 4 weeks latest

Get yourself an 8GB data ssd (most of the are refurb but industrial grade) and do have plenty of lifetime left.

Never had the issues since I moved off the USB sticks....
