Stopped start failed: QEMU exited with code 1

Hi everyone, I am having an issue exiting with code 1....here is the message:

kvm: warning: host doesn't support requested feature: CPUID.01H:ECX.sse4.2 [bit 20]
kvm: warning: host doesn't support requested feature: CPUID.01H:ECX.popcnt [bit 23]
kvm: warning: host doesn't support requested feature: CPUID.01H:ECX.aes [bit 25]
kvm: Host doesn't support requested features
TASK ERROR: start failed: QEMU exited with code 1

Can any body help me?

this means that your host CPU does not support certain feature required by the virtual CPU type you selected for the VM. In Proxmox VE 8, the default is x86-64-v2 which essentially all (server) CPUs from the last 10+ years should support. If yours doesn't, select a different CPU type like qemu64 or host for the VM. I selected CPU type as the host. It is successfully work.
 
Can i Please get help. Every time i try to start up my VM i says 'TASK ERROR: start failed: QEMU exited with code 1'

Here full error message,

Hi, have you changed something in your systems BIOS?
When I had this issue, it was due to a minor change, wich i made in my BIOS. Or did you change anything else like your Proxmox configuration?

you are trying to start a VM configured to use a CPU type that requires features (AESNI) that your physical CPU doesn't have. change the CPU type, then it should start.
 
I get this when I try and start my VM, if I remove GPU's it will boot fine.
kvm: -device vfio-pci,host=0000:dc:00.0,id=hostpci4,bus=ich9-pcie-port-5,addr=0x0: vfio 0000:dc:00.0: hardware reports invalid configuration, MSIX PBA outside of specified BAR
TASK ERROR: start failed: QEMU exited with code 1

Hi @skins4ever86 , the exit error is generic - anything not 0 is conventionally an error. 1 is a catch all. Some developers use other integers to describe specific problems.

Your particular error is related to the PCI passthrough, and is more likely hardware/BIOS related than PVE itself. Its worth an isolated thread, but since you are already here:
  1. Check what the card reports: lspci -vvv -s dc:00.0 | grep -E 'Region|MSI-X'.
  2. BIOS: enable Above 4G Decoding, then try toggling Resizable BAR on/off.
  3. Make sure the host is bound to vfio-pci from boot (lspci -nnk -s dc:00.0 should show Kernel driver in use: vfio-pci) and that nouveau/nvidia/amdgpu are blacklisted. A host driver that touched the card first can leave it in a bad state, so do a full power-off, not just a reboot.
  4. Since this is hostpci4, test whether dc:00.0 fails on its own or only with several GPUs attached. A different slot sometimes fixes it.
  5. Make sure you have the latest available kernel, QEMU, and the card's firmware/VBIOS
