SSD Speed was slow

Studying the specs it seems that the box has two PCIe slots:
PCIe1: Half length, half height x8 (x4)
PCIe2: Full length, full height x8 (x8)

All the cards I have mentioned should fit into PCIe2 and possibly you could also find ones which fit into PCIe1 but I wouldn't count on that.

LSI 1068 is SATA 2/SAS 2 3/6 Gbps
LSI 2008 is SATA 3/SAS 2 6/6 Gbps

SATA 3 is only relevant if you intend to use SSD since no mechanical harddisk is capable of running at a higher speed than provided by SATA 1.

If you want to go with ZFS then forget about raid capabilities of the controller since you are not going to use it. But for the record:
ServeRAID M1015 and M1115 both uses LSI2008 so this mean SATA3/SAS2. Both does support RAID 0,1,10 and optional raid 5 and 50 but without cache so BBU is not needed.

Found one available at ebay for $110: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/IBM-Serve...185?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item27f9392071

Ok, nice to have, and do you activate cache of ssd hdds than you use raid controller without cache - right?

biggest thanks for your informations, i will check it and test it.

best regards

Sorry, it should have read IT mode (pass through mode, aka no raid functionality and no bios)

Your link points to a bad solution which requires the individual disks to be configured as individual raid0.

I my experience all HP raid controllers are crap. Go for LSI based controllers if you want to use ZFS. LSI based controllers can easily be flashed in IT mode.
Hi mir,
are you sure that is right for all lsi controller?

I have three lsi crapware controller LSI SAS9260-16I which also can't do path-trough (only raid-0 over one disk).
I found no firmware to bring this controller in IT-mode.

I'm glad, if you know an source!

With this particular chip you are out luck since LSI have not made any IT-firmware. Can the controller not be configured in JBOD mode?

Hi mir,
unfortunality not.
I'm expected all (resonable) Raid-controller can do path-trough, because I worked before with Areca and Adaptec... but LSI see this different.

On last dell poweredge generation, the new perc h310 (lsi 3008), is able to do both passthrough and hardwre raid mode natively , without need to reflash it.
