SPICE microphone only works with AC97 but then audio output is static-y.

I'm using SPICE to connect to various Debian and Ubuntu VMs. These VMs all have multiple USB Devices set up in Hardware. I have only been able to get audio output and input(mic) to work with AC97 but then the audio output is horribly static-y. Using ich9-hda or ich9-intel-hda the audio output is great but I cannot get the microphone to work.

Anybody else seen similar? Have any advice?
