Hello!

Last year while upgrading Ceph from Nautilus to Octopus we were bitten by two Ceph bugs: https://tracker.ceph.com/issues/51619 and https://tracker.ceph.com/issues/51682. While both bugs have been fixed, one is backported to 15.2.14, but the other is backported to 15.2.16. We have one Nautilus->Octopus upgrade to go, but the current version of Proxmox 6 includes Ceph 15.2.15, and we're hesitant to upgrade to a version that still includes one of these bugs.

Will there be a Proxmox release that includes Ceph 15.2.16?

Best regards,

Roel

15.2.16 is already availble for pve 7.x (bullseye) on the main ceph repository
and for pve 6.4 (buster) it's in the ceph test repository (not sure why it wasn't moved to the main yet)
but in any case 6.4 support is ending soon, thus using 7.x is recommended anyway

Hi Dominik,

Thanks for your answer!
We're absolutely planning to go to 7.x, but we'll have to go to Octopus first before we can do that.
Would it be possible to disclose the reason why 15.2.16 has not yet moved to main, for buster? That might help us decide what choice would be better for us: Upgrade to 15.2.15 from main which includes that bug that bit us before, or upgrade to 15.2.16 from testing.

Best regards,
Roel

Hi,
Would it be possible to disclose the reason why 15.2.16 has not yet moved to main, for buster?
No specific reason, but in general we're slowing down package movement between test and main repositories for oldstable releases, as most of our internal infrastructure moved to the current 7.x series version months ago.
So, even though we naturally test new packages for 6.4, they still got less "natural" exposure to production load testing from our side, that's why we take it a bit slower to give those updates a better chance to still shake out regressions before hitting the main repo(s) - especially if not security critical.

Anyhow, this one has been in the test repo for a while, so I just moved it now to the main repo.
