Proxmox with Ceph Lumionous

Hi Guys,

We're currently running a Promox 4.2 cluster with Ceph Infernalis. The Ceph managers run on external hardware, not the Proxmox hosts.

We are considering upgrading to ceph Luminous for a bunch of reason. Everything looked good until I saw this on the ceph docs.

WHICH CLIENT VERSIONS SUPPORT CRUSH_TUNABLES5¶

• v10.0.2 (jewel) or later
• Linux kernel version v4.5 or later (for the file system and RBD kernel clients)

Proxmox is using the 4.4 LTS kernel. Can anyone verify that the Promxox RBD client will work with Ceph Luminous using the newer Luminous file structure.

I suggest you upgrade first from Proxmox VE 4.x to latest 5.x

Hi Tom, is that a requirement? We run a lot of containers on each host, migrating and updating would take days, and then we'd have to go through a lot of testing with the new version.

We'll do it of course, if there are no other options.

V4 will be end of support in June, so the move is needed anyway.

Upgrading from 4 to 5 is not that much effort, most times it works really well without issues.

Personally I did not test Ceph 12.x with Proxmox VE 4.x, I run all my production Clusters with current versions only.
