Hey all, this looks really scary. If this package goes away, will my host no longer boot?? It is setup with secure boot enabled, so I am really concerned (and glad I caught this).

So, the answer to this question is, the Proxmox host will no longer boot.

I just experienced this, although it was on purpose to see what it did. I've had a lab host idle for a while, added the entitlement as I'm serious about properly learning Proxmox VE, applied the updates, saw this message and thought "hmm, did I not enable secure boot?" and allowed it to continue. I performed a few more tasks (added a proper certificate, enabled SMTP, etc.), and then thought I should reboot before trying to add any VMs or containers. Welp, it hasn't come back. The lab is at my office, and I'm at home, so I guess I won't be playing with this again until Monday.

What a stupid problem to have.

Stuff like this is why I make full bare-metal backups with fsarchiver and run the bkpcrit script before doing ANYthing to the system. And test restores into a VM.

...Altho it sounds like you're still on proxmox 7, which I believe is EOL:

I'm back in the office this morning, and my host was sitting at the screen described here:

I rebooted it, turned off secure boot in the UEFI firmware, booted into Proxmox successfully, applied updates to take Proxmox VE from version 8.2.2 to 8.4.1, rebooted again (new kernel), and then one final reboot to re-enable secure boot in the firmware. It's all good now.
