    FAQ
Q: Can I do an inplace-upgrade from Proxmox Mail Gateway 4 to 5?
A: No. But you can backup/restore the rule database and email statistic from PMG 4 to 5.

Q: Can I upgrade from the Proxmox Mail Gateway 5.0 beta to the final 5.0 release with apt?
    A: Yes.

Q: Which update repositories are available?
A: We use the well known Debian Stretch repositories and the Proxmox Mail Gateway repositories:

By default, the enterprise repo is enabled but works only if you purchase a subscription key.
    # pmg-enterprise - stable updates for enterprise subscribers
    deb https://enterprise.proxmox.com/debian/pmg stretch pmg-enterprise

    # pmgtest repository, for testing new features or bug fixes
    deb http://download.proxmox.com/debian/pmg stretch pmgtest

    # pmg-no-subscription - updates for non-subscribers
    deb http://download.proxmox.com/debian/pmg stretch pmg-no-subscription

Q: Can I install Proxmox Mail Gateway on top of Debian Stretch?
    A: Yes. See documentation https://www.proxmox.com/en/downloads/item/proxmox-mail-gateway-admin-guide-for-5-x

Q: Can I still buy a Proxmox Mail Gateway 4.x license?
A: No, the V4 is End-of-Sale, we do not sell renewals or new licenses for 4.x.

Q: Can I still run an existing Proxmox Mail Gateway 4.x?
A: Yes, you can run your existing installation as long as your license is active. But we encourage you to plan the move as soon as possible to the new version.

Q: I have a valid Avira SAV license key, can I use this one also on 5.0?
A: No. Avira SAV is not available for 5.0.

Q: I have a valid Proxmox Mail Gateway 4 license with enterprise support, can I use this license also for 5.0?
A: Yes. V4 customers will get free subscription keys for 5.x from your reseller via email. These free keys will have the same expiration date as your V4 license.

We hope you will like the new Proxmox Mail Gateway and are looking forward to your feedback.

    Dear Proxmox team,

We must do something special if we install into the ESX environment? The ESX Tools are included?

As we use plain Debian Stretch, just run:

    > apt update
    > apt install open-vm-tools

Or follow the installation guide for Debian Stretch from VMware.

Regarding licenses, how we convert the existing PMG4 license to PMG5 subscription key? We receive the key automatically on email or we must do a request?

You will get the new key in a few days, if you cannot wait just send a request to your reseller, e.g. via https://shop.maurer-it.com/contact.php

It's not a problem, we can wait!
Another question: I take a quick look on user interface, and I realize that I can't not locate the old Network menu - from where I can see/change my existing network configuration. How we see/change the exiting network IP?

    Dear support team,
I receive the subscription key, I install a fresh install in ESX, I upload the key, make the upgrades, but before I apply the backup from existing PMG 4 I need to know if this key can be apply to more than one server. In the actual configuration, I have 2 x PMG servers with the same license file, that relay on the same domain over the VPN on the same mail server. I use this solution because in each city I have only one ISP and I can't create a failover system with only one public IP; I can use the same system in PMG 5?

A key can be applied on one server. If you have 2 PMG server now, you should also have two licenses.

If you VPN setup works with V4, I see no problem with V5.

After I read the PDF with all Q&A from license I read the paragraph that says clear: "Every subscription key is bound to the unique "Server ID" of your server and is regularly checked for validity."
If the a server crash, or the hardware must be replaced (in the situation when we do not use VM's) the migration it's made automatically, or we must notify Proxmox to un-license the previous server and to allow the new server to update the license?

If your server ID changes, you need to re-issue your key. This can be done multiple times by your own via shop.maurer-it.com (if you buy directly there).

Is LVM or ZFS a requirement for installing Proxmox Mail Gateway 5.0?

I'm just asking because I would prefer to install it in a container (LXC).

Read the FAQ on the first post.

Q: Can I install Proxmox Mail Gateway on top of Debian Stretch?
    A: Yes. See documentation https://www.proxmox.com/en/downloads/item/proxmox-mail-gateway-admin-guide-for-5-x

And yes, runs also on LXC!

Thanks. I've checked the FAQs and the Admin Guide before but it was not clear to me.

The Admin Guide notes in "System Requirements" "Proxmox VE (KVM)" explicitly with "KVM" in brackets.
Chapter 3.3. says "In general, this is not trivial, especially when you use LVM or ZFS.".

So ZFS or LVM is not a requirement for installing it, correct?

No, the partitions or filesystem is not relevant.

    HI,
I installed Proxmox Mail Gateway 5.0 in a privileged lxc container on top of a Debian 9 and a pve-kernel was installed. Is this supposed to happen?

    Code:
    Setting up pve-kernel-4.13.16-1-pve (4.13.16-45) ...
    Examining /etc/kernel/postinst.d.
    run-parts: executing /etc/kernel/postinst.d/apt-auto-removal 4.13.16-1-pve /boot/vmlinuz-4.13.16-1-pve
    run-parts: executing /etc/kernel/postinst.d/initramfs-tools 4.13.16-1-pve /boot/vmlinuz-4.13.16-1-pve
    update-initramfs: Generating /boot/initrd.img-4.13.16-1-pve
    run-parts: executing /etc/kernel/postinst.d/zz-update-grub 4.13.16-1-pve /boot/vmlinuz-4.13.16-1-pve

    Dear Mr Martin,

Finally i already migration from Proxmox mail gateway 4 to 5.
But, i want to ask about license, really replace became.

Proxmox MG 4 = antispam using CYREN
Proxmox MG 5 = no antispam CYREN and change to repository enterprise.

and I really appreciate for proxmox mg 5, because for cluster no need add license again. cluster for default feature.. very good job Sir.
    Thank you for your explain.
