Hello all

Does anyone have any head-ups on if pbs will be able in the future to backup physical machines: e.g. Windows,Linux, Mac and R Pi ?
(that would be way cool)

Thanks and Happy Holidays !

Thank you !
You seem to imply that its possible now .
I can't find any refs to how. Could you me to any refs on how to backup/restore a physical host?

Has anyone ever returned a backup? Example would be: Client PC / machine damaged, must be completely recovered. There is no image made right? Only dates if I understand correctly.

you can also backup whole disks/raw image files on a block level like for VM backups (just use "somename.img:/some/source/device" instead of "somename.pxar:/some/source/path" when calling proxmox-backup-client backup, but obviously you need to ensure consistency somehow else the backed-up data will be corrupt. so likely best to do that scripted in a live environment on a sunday morning, or something like that ;)

Oh, ok. This sounds really nice. Hmm, literally screams for a test setup! Very thanks. :D

Hi fabian,

Is there any change that in the future we will see some option to boot live backup client on the proxmox dvd?

For example someone backup the disk image (os disk) and after one crash he want to restore, the only way to do this is to install proxmos in other disk if there is available and restore the backup or to restore using another system and I think it is easyer if you include this.

if we ever add a 'one-click' PVE host backup feature to PVE we likely also will include some sort of 'restore from backup' feature in the installer iso. but a generic 'restore raw disk backup to physical disks' is very much setup-dependent (and since you can just install the client on bullseye, booting a bullseye live-cd or netboot image already gives you that with the option to tailor it to exactly your environment)

It is better if you implement "one-click" PVE host backup and restore using installer iso.
When I said restore raw disk I was referring to the backup raw disk made by the client with "somename.img:/some/source/device" which contain the last proxmox host backup.

Thank you, I'm looking forward to see 'one-click' PVE host backup feature on PVE
