[2:3:2:0] tape IBM ULT3580-HH9 P371 /dev/st1

I get the type "enclosu" for the IBM TS-4300 is that robot not supported? How can I change the type or make it work?
The tape drives seems ok.
I updated firmware from tapes and library.

EDIT: here my hba driver

scsi host3: Adaptec AIC79XX PCI-X SCSI HBA DRIVER, Rev 3.0
<Adaptec 29320LPE PCIe Ultra320 SCSI adapter>
aic7901: Ultra320 Wide Channel A, SCSI Id=7, PCI-X 101-133MHz, 512 SCBs

does it work with the 'mtx' tool ? e.g. 'mtx -f <device> status` ?
(plug in the proper /dev/... path in place of <device>)

cannot open SCSI device '/dev/changer' - No such file or directory

i think my pbs does not identify my library, i didnt install any drivers from IBM. Is it possible, that the basic linux driver isnt compatible?

Thanks for the link, my TS4300 is in random mode. It is the default mode. Firmware is the newest available.
Next i am gonna try to look at the bios of my pbs server, maybe there is some settings to it.

Should i install "lintape" and try it with it ? There was no help within the bios/uefi. I am using a SAS connection.

it seems not even the kernel is able to communicate with the changer... as i said maybe the hba does not support changers properly? or did it work with other software in the past?
(if yes which ones?)

we only talk to the changer via scsi, and when there is no device node (e.g. /dev/sgX) from the kernel we cannot communicate/detect the library at all

can you maybe post the whole dmesg?

this is the first time i try to setup the tape library and i have no other exprerience with the hba working with other software. It could be that it does not support changers, because it is really old hardware.

yeah with adaptec raid cards (afaics it's that from the dmesg) i also often did not succeed with changers

HEY! I just got mine to proof of concept working.... on i believe near identical server hardware.

From the dmesg log: [ 2.857624] scsi 2:3:1:0: Unexpected response from lun 1 while scanning, scan aborted
Same message i had, and as best i can tell, the tape library is saying i speak media changer (tape library), and the HBA is just completely lost.

Dell 6gbs/H200 cards have several forum posts as being functional. The best place i found for compatibility documentation was the PowerVault documentation, which was typically something like 6gbs/12gbs/h330 from my LTO-4 drive. Newer drives i'm pretty sure were different.

Aside from a good HBA card, i'ld be looking into a newer system, it probably would cripple the performance of your LTO-9 drive, and is drawing 300 watts at idle.
