Steps for Reproduction:
Use Proxmox Virtual Environment 4.2-2

Web GUI login via HTTPs
Server View
Datacenter
Authentication
Add
Active Directory Server
Enter Domain and Realm with leading numbers
Enter AD Server IP
Press Save

the realm name is just the visible name of the authentication method,
this name cannot begin with a number
 
I think in Proxmox at the moment it cannot begin with a number, thanks for your help. It still does not seem logical to me hence a Realm eg on FreeNAS can begin with a number, and it is not documented for the error messages. The most I know it is not important for me to understand this limitation or feature of proxmox, I am thankful I got it working... have a great day/evening.
