After upgrade to 1.8 KSM is not working.

> pveversion -v
pve-manager: 1.8-17 (pve-manager/1.8/5948) running kernel: 2.6.35-1-pve pve-kernel-2.6.35-1-pve: 2.6.35-11 pve-kernel-2.6.24-8-pve: 2.6.24-16 qemu-server: 1.1-30 pve-firmware: 1.0-11 libpve-storage-perl: 1.0-17 vncterm: 0.9-2 vzctl: 3.0.26-1pve4 vzdump: 1.2-12 vzprocps: 2.0.11-2 vzquota: 3.0.11-1

How can i (re)install KSM

looks like you miss some packages, just run:

Code:
apt-get update

apt-get install proxmox-ve-2.6.35

Thanks for help.
Its look like ksm is installed

pve-manager: 1.8-17 (pve-manager/1.8/5948) running kernel: 2.6.35-1-pve proxmox-ve-2.6.35: 1.8-11 pve-kernel-2.6.35-1-pve: 2.6.35-11 pve-kernel-2.6.24-8-pve: 2.6.24-16 qemu-server: 1.1-30 pve-firmware: 1.0-11 libpve-storage-perl: 1.0-17 vncterm: 0.9-2 vzctl: 3.0.26-1pve4 vzdump: 1.2-12 vzprocps: 2.0.11-2 vzquota: 3.0.11-1 pve-qemu-kvm: 0.14.0-3 ksm-control-daemon: 1.0-5

and running

> /etc/init.d/ksmtuned status KSM control daemon is running..

even so no effect

RAM Speicher (7.79GB/5.27GB)

before upgrade there was roughly 4.2GB

> cat /sys/kernel/mm/ksm/pages_sharing 0

but i have 5 nearly identical WIN2000 VMs and 2 WINXP VMs
there is no CPU-load from the ksmd

should work. can you poweroff your winxp VM´s and give more RAM to them. any change? you need to wait some time.

No, all VMs are used.
But i have start a 3. XP-VM.

> cat /sys/kernel/mm/ksm/pages_sharing 78152

6.3GB... after some time 6.05GB

i stoped the 3. XP-VM

5.05GB... after some time 5.16GB
> cat /sys/kernel/mm/ksm/pages_sharing 78152

Its look like ksm only works for the XP-VMs after the upgrade.
Is that possible?

KSM works on all KVM guests, but not all guest are the same.

not sure if it helps for you but try the latest KVM 0.14.1 (from pvetest). this version will be moved to the stable repo next week (plan).

Same problem here (KSM does not work). With two Wxp identical machines (restarted some times), I get pages_shared = 0 .

I can not find instruction to install a package from pvetest (to try KVM 0.14.1).
Can you point me to these instrucions ??

Best regards

Vicente
