Migration OpenVZ to LXC problems

What do you mean "could have cloned the RHEL container" ?

sorry, i misunderstood. i thought you already had a clean RHEL container.

No, the problem is not solved. The container didn't work the way I did it first. I suppose I need to make a template out of the RHEL 4 iso I have, but I don't know how?

have you tried restoring it to a container with a matching centos version? maybe that could work.
don't delete the whole container filesystem before unpacking the archive, just unpack the archive on / of the centos container. probably it will work (haven't tried this as i don't have RHEL container either)

to answer your question about creating lxc template from ISO, there's no easy way. but in essence lxc templates are just archives of the root filesystem (with some parts excluded, like /dev, /sys, and so on)

The oldest template I have been able to find is Centos 5, I'd need Centos 4.

does it really need to run that old of a version?

whichever application was running on it, can it not be migrated to a newer system?

Sorry, I mean Centos 6 - is the oldest one. I need to get it running on the original version. At the moment I do it by running an OpenVZ server in a VM, but it's kind of a clunky solution.

honestly i think it'll be easier for you to run the application in a newer OS and migrate the data

Unfortunately migrating to a newer OS is not possible at this time, so if it is not possible to create a working template from an ISO I guess I will just have to keep it in an OpenVZ system in a VM. Not optimal but works.
