Hey all,
So I have recently inherited an r730 that I would like to move my current r430 into. With this change the entirety of the r430 components (CPUs, RAM, HDDs, PCIE NIC, and RAID controller) would simply be removed from the r430 and into the r730. I assume the transfer should be as easy as moving the components over and then turning on the r730. The r430 currently has 8x SSDs in a RAIDZ2 configuration which is what PVE is installed on.
I haven't done a migration like this with Proxmox before, but considering the r430 and r730 are the same platform, I'm hoping that makes things simpler. I plan to make the BIOS configuration the same on both systems before performing the swap. I would also like to take backups of the system configuration but I'm unsure the best way to achieve this (backup configuration of VMs and LXCs or backup everything).
Components:
CPU: 2x Intel(R) Xeon(R) CPU E5-2667 v4 @ 3.20GHz
RAM: 4x 32GB 2133Mhz DDR4 Registered ECC RAM M386A4G40DM0-CPB
DISKS: 8x 800GB Hitachi SSDs 512 SAS 6GBs HUSMM818 CLAR800
NIC: Broadcom NetXtreme II BCM57810 10 Gigabit Ethernet SFP card
RAID CONTROLLER: Dell PERC H730 Mini
My biggest worry is that Proxmox will fail to recognize the drives or something and boot will fail. I also worry about it failing and trying to revert by moving components back to the r430 but it failing to start due to corruption or something.
Has anyone had experience with doing something like this? From my research it looks like it should work but I can't say im not a little bit worried.
Thanks!
