Mac OS X support. Recompiling PVE QEMU/KVM

Hi,

I have a little MacMini laying about that I've successfully installed Proxmox VE on. Previous to that it ran Ubuntu 8.10 and I managed to compile a version of KVM that included support for running Mac OS X virtually (I only barely need it, wanted my full disk allotted to Ubuntu).

So anyway, I've found the patch (This may be the only one needed) and I've found the pve-qemu-kvm_2010-02-04.tar.gz source file. Basically it adds support for an SMC controller and using the OSK keys I got when I was originally running Mac OS X you can make Mac OS X believe it's actually running on a Mac... which it is! And legally so!

However it's not just an easy a job as "apt-get build-dep pve-qemu-kvm" and "apt-get source pve-qemu-kvm" is it? :) It's a shame there isn't a source repositoriy, so I was wondering if perhaps you have a "best method" for compiling a custom KVM debian package from your .tar.gz?

I realise this isn't a supported feature, but if it works - theres no reason you can't take what I find and incorporate it in the next release!

Thanks

Could you please post detailed instructions on how to compile Proxmox for Mac?

Would it run OpenVZ without a problem?

What about kernels?

Ultimately I would like to be able to install Proxmox on a Mac hardware or as a software on Mac OS X in such a way that I can create openvz containers from the proxmox interface on Mac.

I managed to install proxmox as the OS on an old Mac Pro, the first generation of Mac Pro with Intel.

But today it is impossible to just install the Proxmox OS on a Mac Pro or Xserve hardware. I'd be interested to know:

1. if you recompiled proxmox and install it as the OS
2. or if you just installed it as a software/server in Mac OS X
3. how you did it and also understand to what extend it works... whether it allows you to create containers while on Mac etc...

Thanks for providing further info.

And by extension be able to install OS X Server on Proxmox on Apple hardware. I've got an xserve with the hardware raid card I would love to install PVE on and run OS X Server in a few VM's. I currently use Parallels server but it's a dog.

+1 for this.

I have a Mac Mini that I would love to run Proxmox on with a couple of OSX vm's.

Would still like to know from the Proxmox team if the available patches for Mac OS X support for KVM will be integrated.

There is obviously no licensing issues running a virtual Mac OS X on Mac hardware.
